I thought I knew the desert, but I didn't know THIS desert. We get the occasional rainfall in the California desert. It passes through with less-than impressive storms. Folks. This is monsoon. And it is beautiful.
Of course, there was that morning in September, 2014, when the "700 year storm" hit the Coachella Valley... but that's the exception.
